Michael Ray, DDS, MPH
A native Texan, Dr. Michael Ray grew up in The Colony, just north of Dallas. He always wanted to pursue a career in the medical field and has found that oral surgery is an ideal way for him to help people.
He loves getting to know his patients so he can truly understand what they need and what will help them feel comfortable during treatment. He finds that helping people improve their smiles and oral health is the most rewarding part of his job, and he loves having such an impact on patients’ lives.
Education and Residency
Dr. Ray received his undergraduate degree in biology in 1995 from the University of Texas at Austin. He continued to Baylor College of Dentistry to obtain his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree in 1999. Dr. Ray joined the Navy after graduating from dental school and completed a General Practice Residency at Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton. Dr. Ray also attended Harvard University and earned his Master of Public Health (MPH) degree in 2015.
Oral surgeons are required to complete at least four years in an oral and maxillofacial surgery residency program. Dr. Ray enrolled at Baylor University Medical Center and Baylor College of Dentistry and completed the program in 2006. During his residency, Dr. Ray trained in the safe administration of all levels of anesthesia and treatment of a broad scope of oral and facial conditions.
Military Service
Dr. Ray served on active duty in the United States Navy from 1999–2010 and has continued his service since then in the Navy Reserves. His travels in the Navy exposed him to many human conditions including serving on the USNS Comfort after the earthquake in Haiti in 2010 and in Kandahar, Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom.
Certifications
In 2008, Dr. Ray earned his certification from the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. In doing so, he achieved exemplary status among oral surgeons and demonstrated his extensive knowledge of the oral and maxillofacial surgery specialty.
Outside the Office
Outside of the practice, Dr. Ray enjoys playing golf, tennis, listening to live music, and traveling. He also enjoys spending time with his wife and five children. Dr. Ray is a Captain in the US Navy and serves as a reserve Naval Officer.
